A south-side Indianapolis woman says she's upset that a school bus stop is in front of a twice-convicted child molester's home.
Christina Web, whose 5-year-old daughter is about to start kindergarten, told 6News' Linda Allen that she complained to the Perry Township school district after learning about the molester's convictions on Friday.
"I can't understand how any normal parent would be OK with saying, 'Here you go, take my child and stand her in front of a child molester's house every single day,' " Web said.
Web said the school district declined to move the bus stop.
"They said we can leave her there or we can take her down to the other bus stop," which is more than 12 houses away, Web said.
The district told 6News that it can't allow a bus to go to the Webs' driveway because the family lives on a cul-de-sac and it is not safe for buses to turn there.
The district also said that moving the bus stop would be unfair for children whose families want to use it, including children living in the sex offender's house.
"As a school district, we're not allowed to make those judgments. We can't be the judge and jury. We can't convict someone in the public court of opinion," district spokeswoman Karen Cantou said.
Web said she would rather not drive her daughter to school because "all the kids on the street ride the bus."
"I don?t want her to be singled out and be the only one that can't ride the bus," Web said.
Web said that she would come up with an option in which she will know that her daughter is safe.
"I feel like I'm being argumentative and upsetting everybody and getting everybody in a stir, but it kind of feels like I'm the only one that's saying, 'Wait a minute, there's a problem here,' " Web said.
